Stagescripts

The Brief

Stagescripts is a well-established and unique script publisher, providing high-quality musical and theatrical works to amateur and professional theatre groups across the UK, from village halls to West End stages. With a catalogue of over 1,000 titles and a writer community of more than 250 contributors, their offering spans musicals, pantomimes, plays and mini-operas.

Following a transition in ownership and a desire to modernise the business, Thrive collaborated with Stagescripts to reimagine their website and digital platform, supporting future growth and enhancing digital agility. Their existing BigCommerce site, while functional, was outdated and lacked the flexibility, user experience standards, and content management tools required to support a growing user base and expanding catalogue. The primary users - theatre directors, production managers and amateur dramatics committees - needed a straightforward, informative and efficient way to preview, license and purchase scripts.

Our Process

Thrive worked closely with the Stagescripts team to understand their users, the structure of their product catalogue, the engagement of their writer community, and the competitive landscape. Branding was a priority, with clean, theatre-inspired visuals that reflected both the creative and professional nature of the business. Navigation was carefully structured to enable seamless discovery of scripts, alongside dedicated pages highlighting top writers and award-winning plays. A refreshed “About” section was also developed to tell the story of the company and its team.

Our Solution

The new website was built on a modern, scalable platform with a flexible backend, allowing Stagescripts to expand its reach and better connect with both amateur and professional theatre groups. Product pages were optimised to accommodate multiple script formats, including digital downloads, printed scripts and royalty licences. Backend improvements streamlined stock and order management, while the site structure now supports over 1,000 titles and a growing contributor base.

The platform also includes a script preview and licensing system, responsive design for mobile and tablet devices, a dedicated writer showcase, editorial content, multi-format product options, and strategic competitor benchmarking to ensure market-leading positioning.

The client’s feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with the new platform enabling them to better serve both script buyers and contributors. The combination of responsive design, enhanced content, and scalable infrastructure has positioned Stagescripts for continued growth in the UK theatre market.
